O/2)I DESCRIPTION OF QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM FOR TYPE B QUANTITY SHIPMENTS OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL 1.
Organization 1.
Houston Inspection, Incorporated, pursuant to 10 CFR 71.12 and 10'CFR 71.51(a), is responsible for a QA program for Type B quantity shipments and transportation of radioactive material.
Fabrication and design of Type B packages is not included.
2.
The organization structure in Section 7.0 is applicable.
a)
The Radiation Safety Officer is responsible for admin-istration of the program, training of personnel, procurement of manufacturer's certifications, maintain-ing packaging and shipping documents, retention of records and program audits.
b)
Radiographer are responsible for handling, storing, shipping and transporting radioactive packages in accordance with the procedures in O&E Manual; and they are responsible for inspections, surveys and maintenance reports in accordance with the procedures in O&E Manual.
II.
Quality Assurance Program 1.
Radiographer are trained in their responsibilities above according to Section 8.0.
2.
The QA program will be viable, requiring management approval, and the program encompasses specific require-ments stated in the package approval for use, and general radiation safety and shipping requirements.
3.
Manufacturer's certification will be reques ed and main-gg".

Handling, Shipping, Transporting and Storage 1.
Radiography personnel will handle, ship, transport and store radioactive packages in accordance with the procedures in O.&.E. Manual.

Radiography personnel will determine the completeness of package inspections and presence of manufacturer's certifications before shipment.

Inspections, surveys and maintenace reports on Type B packages will be made in accordance with O-& E Manual.

_ Quarterly inspcetion and maintenace of Type B packages will be performed by the RSO as outlined in Section 10.0 Number 8.
VI.
Quality Assurance Records 1.
Utilization logs, shipment records, package surveys and quarterly inspection records will be maintained as specified in Sections 10 and 0 & E Manual.
2.
Training records are maintained in accordance with Section 8.0.
3.
Procedures and instructions for equipment and packaging are maintained by the Radioation Safety Officer.
VII.
Audits 1.
Quarterly audits of the entire radiation safety program are n.rformed in accordance with Section 10.0.
2.
The quarterly audits include the necessary checks on the QA program as outlined in Section 10.0 number 8.
3.
Any deficiencies revealed by the audits are corrected in accordance with Section 10.0.
