Dear Security;hnager:

I am ' pleased to announce that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions

. planning to sponsor a training symposium for its staff and iicensees on the

' topic:

" Firearms and Explosives Recognition and Detection," to be conducted November 28-30, 1989 at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda, in Bethesda, Maryland.

Its purpose is to provide heightened recognition and awareness of state-of-the-art firearms and explosives technologies, methods.of detection, and events (both foreign and domestic) involving firearms and explosives.

See enclosed proposed agenda. The symposium will be conducted by a cross-section of industry and government axperts and will be unclassified. Attendance will be limited to approximately 400 due to space limitations; however, we presently plan to have proceedings and, possibly, videotapes of the symposium available for purchase by attendees. At this time, we anticipate the training registra-tion fee will be in the vicinity of $150.00 per attendee.

As Symposium Chaiman I would like to note that the reaction received thus far in response to the symposium has been very positive and interest has been high. DDtailed information, in the fom of a brochure and including registra-tion information, will be mailed to you later this year. We request that any questions you may have be reserved until after you have. reviewed this 4

detailed information.

In the meantime, I hope that you, your safeguards training officer, and other interested members of your staff directly involved in 1

contraband detection will plan to participate in this training.

I look forward to seeing you there.
