To discuss dry spent fuel storage licensing under 10 CFR Part 72.
DISCUSSION We discussed licensing of dry spent fuel storage under Part 72. Differences were discussed between the present site-specific license and the general license proposed in the amendment to Part 72 providing for a general license for use of pre-approved casks.
Marubeni is associated with NKK Corporation. NKK may be interested in applying for a certificate of compliance for a dry spent fuel storage cask under the proposed dmendment, assuming final rule issuance by the Commission. NKK has manufactured a 100-ton class nodular cast fron cask and drop tested it in Japan.
I referred Mr. Muraoka to the Office of General Counsel for any future questions that may need to be answered on NKK's legal corporate status in the United States for purposes of applying for a dry storage cask certificate of compliance.
