Philadelphia Electric Company noncompliance

REFERENCE:

letter to Mr. Robert Bauer, Jr. of DER from-M. J. McCormick, dated May 24, 1989.

Dear Mr. Bauer:

This letter is a followup to the noncompliance letter dated May 24, 1989 from Limerick Generating Station. It has been determined' that the blowdown diffuser line is partially blocked.

Arrangements have been made to remove the obstructing material.

.This material is believed to be either river silt which settled in the diffuser during the recently' completed four . month refueling outage or river silt which built up inside the pipe since the diffuser's inception. Regardless of the origin, the material will be removed and disposed of as soon as river conditions permit. Removal will be accomplished by mobile dredging or similar equipment.

1 Physical access to the diffuser is only possible when the i Schuykill River flow is at a minimum. Recent and consistent i rains have elevated river flowrates to above normal condition for i this time of year. This has postponed resolution of the problem until river flow returns to normal. 1 Completion of this task should preclude the blowdown manhole from overflowing and thereby preventing any future noncompliance of this type.
