TELECON - LOUISIANA ENERGY SERVICES i
i Duke Power Company (Duke) announced in a June 9,1989. press release the formation of Louisiana Energy Services to proceed with plans to develep a private uranium enrichment plant in Louisiana.
The announcement indicated that Duke would be the leader of the joint venture project with Fluor Daniel, Urenco, Louisiana Power & Light, and a subsidiary of Northern States Power.
I called Duke on June 27, 1989, to introduce myself as the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
. Commission (hRC) licensing project manager and to encourage an early management meeting with NRC. Rick Priory, Senior Vice-President, Generation and Infonnation Services, Power Group, returned my call on June 28, 1989. Mr. Priory said that he would be our principal contact until appointment of an official in Duke's Engineering and Licensing organization. Mr. Priory also recognized the need for a management meeting to introduce their principal participants, to outline plans for the project, and to learn of NRC's plans for consideration of licensing.
An executive steering committee has been formed, and some individuals have been hired or assigned to the project. However, a general manager has not yet been appointed. Mr. Priory believes that this appointment will be made in a l
few weeks. Following that, he will call me to arrar.ge an initial meeting.
