I am responding to your letter of June'15 1989, concerning metric conversion in the United States and reactivation of the Inter-agency. Committee on Metric Policy (ICMP).
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) remains committed to' carrying out the provisions of the. Metric Conversion Act of 1975 and the Omnibus Trade and.
1 Competitiveness Act of 1988.
Mr. Eric Beckjord, Director of the NRC's Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research, wil'1 continue to I
serve as NRC's representative on the ICMP.
Mr. Beckjord has also i
been given responsibility to develop.for Commission consideration i
a' comprehensive plan proposing. utilization of the metric system of i
weights and measures in NRC's activities.
The NRC looks forward to working with you and the Interagency-Committee to achieve conversion to the metric. system.
