Portland, Maine 04103 General License As a result of the inspection conducted on June 5, 1989, and in accordance with 1
the " General Statement of Policy and Procedure for NRC Enforcement Actions,"
10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C (Enforcement Policy) (1988), the following violation was identified:
10 CFR 31.11(c)(1) requires that a licensee operating pursuant to the general license in paragraph (a) of 10 CFR 31.11 shall not possess more than 200 microcuries of iodine-125 at any one location.
Contrary to the above, on June 5,1989, the licensee possessed 208 microcuries of iodine-125 and has received over 200 microcuries

of iodine-125 in one day on several occasions in 1989.
l This is a Severity Level IV violation.
(Supplement VI) l Pursuant to the provisions of 10 CFR 2.201, Northern Diagnostic Laboratories is hereby required to submit to this office within thirty days of the date of the letter which transmitted this Notice, a written statement or explanation in i
reply, including: (1) the corrective steps which have been taken and the results achieved; (2) corrective steps which will be taken to avoid further violations; I
and (3) the date when full compliance will be achieved. Where good cause is shown, consideration will be given to extending this response time.
