Summer Nuclear Station operated by South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (Docket 50-395).
Activity Involved:
Service Water Pump House (SWPH) HVAC flooding analysis Nature of Defect An. error was discovered in the design of a non-safety, non-seismic portion of the SWPH heating and ventilation system.
A path was disc 9vered where the failure of the non-safety piping in the inlet air chamber could cause flooding of the Electrical Equipment Room of the SWPH.
Flooding of the Electrical Equipment Room (at El 425')

could disable the "A" loop safety-related switchgear and motor control centers of the Service Water System.
The non-safety portion of the SWPH ventilation sys tecn is presently isolated, thus no further potential exists for this event.

training session will be conducted for all mechanical / nuclear engineers who are involved with design modifications for nuclear power plants, to review this event and methods to prevent recurrence. These reviews will be conducted within o ^
