TRAINING PLAN FOR HIRONORI (PETE) PETERSON Mr. Peterson began working in the Operator Licensing Section of Region III on July 31, 1989. He has approximately eight years of nuclear power experience.

He was an officer in the nuclear navy for approximately 4 years: he worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation at their Zion training center for approximately li years, and he has worked for the NRC since November 1986.

His experience in the Navy was as an Engineering Officer of the Watch on a nuclear powered submarine. He was a certified Senior Reactor Operator Instructor and conducted classroom instruction at the Westinghouse training facility at Zion. His work experience with the NRC included the review and inspection of the Region III facilities in the area of Emergency Preparedness.

Since September 1987 Pete was the Resident Inspector at the Duane Arnold NPS.

In view of this close associa' tion with nuclear power plant operation both commercial and naval, I recommend that the plant observation training be waived for Mr. Peterson.

Mr. Peterson completed his BWR technology courses as part of his certification as a Resident Inspector at Duane Arnold. He completed the Simulator and Walkthrough techniques courses earlier this year. Mr. Peterson is currently enrolled in the following courses which upon successfui completion wiii complete all required classroom instruction for certification.
