Dear Mr. Stratford:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has had under consideration a proposal from Cameco (formerly Eldorado Resources Limited) to import into this country wastes resulting from the production of uranium hexafluoride.

This is to inform you that the NRC has sent a letter to Cameco indicating that the NRC does not object to Caw co's proposal to import and dis waste (containing an unimportant quantity of source material) pose of its in a U.S.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or State permitted hazardous waste facility (Enclosure).

You should note that NRC has recommended that Cameco co.. tact your agency, as well as the EPA, to assure that you have no objectG3 to the proposal.

The NRC is informing the EPA and the States of New York and Michigan of the attached NRC response to Cameco.

If you should have any questions on this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me.
