DRUC INVESilGATION On June 15, 1989, approximately 1500 hours0.0174 days <br />0.417 hours <br />0.00248 weeks <br />5.7075e-4 months <br /> (PDT), licensee security representatives

. informed NRC Region Y that they were investigating information concerning possible on-site use and sale of marijuana and cocaine by five contract employees, employed by Northwest Energy Services Company (NESCO).

On June 16, 1989, approximately 0811 hours0.00939 days <br />0.225 hours <br />0.00134 weeks <br />3.085855e-4 months <br />, the licensee telephc,nically advised NRC operations center that at 0749 hG es (PDT), they began interviewing the five contract employees. While conducting the interviews, the licensee simultaneously searched the contract employees' work area - - a warehouse outside of the protected area (PA), and the employees tool boxes stored inside the PA. During interviews, none of the five employees indicated involvement with illegal drugs. The licensee's searches met with negative results.

The licensee also required for-cause urinalysis drug tests of the five employees. Three employees agreed to these tests; results are pending. Two employees refused to be tested and their employment has been terminated. The licensee's continued investigation will include interviews with approximately 26 co-workers of the five contract employees.

The licensee determined that the five contract employees b ye not performed safety related duties.

The licensee will follow-up with a 30-day report '.ss required by 10 CFR 73.71.

The licensee does not plan to ist a a press release at this time.

At the time of this event, the plant was shut down, Mode V, performing eddy current examination of steam generator tubes.
