SUBJECT:
STAFF POSITION ON EROSION PROTECTION C0 VERS In accordance with agreed-upon schedules we have completed a final version of the draf t Staff Technical Position (STP)," Design of Erosion Protection Covers for Stabilization of Uranium Mill Tailings Sites." This final draft STP was completed with the help of Ray Gonzales, of your staff. A copy of the STP is enclosed.
As discussed between Ray Gonzales and Ted Johnson on August 8,1989, please transmit copies of this position to appropriate NRC licensees and consultants.
The availability of the position will be noticed in the Federal Register within the next couple of days. However, transmitting the STP directly to the licensees and consultants should provide them'with a greater opportunity for comment.
