MINUTES OF NRC/NUMARC MEETING ON DESIGN BASES DOCUMEhT ACTIVITIES On July 24, 1989 members of the NRC staff met publicly with representatives of NUMARC to discuss activities of both organizations in the area of design bases document (DBD) reconstitution.

i NUMARC representatives stated that they have formed a design bases issues working yrcup that will be headed by David Hoffman of Consumers Power. The group is composed of twenty-three representatives from utilities, architect-engineers, nuclear steam supply system vendors and INP0. The draft mission of the working group is to coordinate industry activities in the DBD area and to interface with the NRC on DBD issues. The first n(eting of the NUMARC working group will be held the week of July 31 to define the scope of their activitics. hUMARC invited the NRC to send a representative to one of their subsequent meetings to discuss t

NRC DBD activities. The working group expects to issue an industry guideline on DBD reconstitution programs and develop a definition of design basis.

The NRC staff discussed the DBD surveys that have been performed to date and 4

the tentative areas that will be addressed in a planned hUREG report.

NUMARC stated that they would contact the NRC after their first working group meeting to continue the dialogue on DBD issues.
