Dear Sir Reference (a) provided the Safety Evaluation regarding LaSalle County
. Station Units 1 and 2 compliance with ATWS itule 10 CFR 50.62.
Additionally, this. letter' requested that Commonwealth Edison submit its proposed resolution
- of.certain remaining open items.
Reference (b) provided this information and stated that.the two issues concerning 1-ATWS/RPT System Testability at Power and ATWS/RPT one-out-of-two (1:2) Logic Design, required further review and that the results of this review would be transmitted by April 28, 1989.
Based on the requirements outlined in Reference (a) and the results
' of Commonwealth Edison's review, LaSalle Station has commited to the following:
- The RPT control circuitry will be modified to provide the capability to perform periodic surveillance tests during
~
normal plant operation up to and including the actuating relay.
The RPT logic design will be modified to "one-out-of-two" taken twice replacing the existing "one-out-of-two" trip scheme.

,, US.NRC April 28, 1989 LaSalle Station wJil procure all new devices safety-related and engineer these design changes as. safety-related modifications. The detailed design and procurement of equipment will require an estimated 40 weeks.
Due to the enmplexity of the modification, these modifications will be scheduled to be c 1 leted by the end of the fourth refueling outage of each unit (Unit 1, June 1991} (Unit 2, March, 1992).
