2) Ialand C. Rousa letter "S L 696, Amendment No. 9" to i

Keith E. Asmussen, dated June 22, 1988

Dear Mr. Rouse:

(

1 l

As you kncu, General Atcmics (GA) has been seeking the release to l

unrestricted use of approximtely 295 acres of "non-GA" land.

In Parch 1988, GA requested de release of approximtely 277 of the 295 i

)

acres of "non-GA" land (Reference 1).

The release of those 277 acres 1

was obtained in June 1988 (Reference 2).

Thus, approxim tely 18 acres of "non-GA" land remain to be rehsed.

J The approximately 18 acres yet to te released include: 1) approxi-

-i mtely 15 acres of steep, rough hillside locater generally wat and j

north of GA's 'IRI6 reacwr facility; 2) a small suage punp scation (approximtely 0.05 acres); and 3) approxim<.ely 3 acres asscciated with an abandoned City of San Diego sewage treatment facility (also

)

known as Callan Ponds).

These three areas are denoted as A:,cas B1, i

B1, and 33, respectivaly, on the attached figare.

I our request until such tire ae you have received and reviewed a 1

favorable report from ORAU.

Nevertheless, because of the need for an l

expeditious release, we wish to have our request cn file in advance.

3 Upon the release of Areas B1 and B3, the only non-GA land yet to be released would be the site of GA's sewage pump house, i.e., Area B2.

Wis area is roughly 40 feet by 50 feet (approximately 0.05 acres) and, as can be seen from the attachcd figure, is in~rediacely adjacent i

to GA's main site; therefore, access for purposes of decontamination, 4

if necessary, is assured, J

t ne le.nd surrounding GA's main site is zoned for industrial /research t

park developnent and a new sewer systan is planned.

This new sewer j

system will include a sewer line which will otniate the need for GA's pump station.

Thus, GA plans to retain the sewage punp station (Area B2) in service until the new sewer line is available for GA's use.

l Then, GA will take the punp station out of service and proceed with obtaining its release.

It is anticipated that it will be approxi-i reately three years before the new seer line will be available to GA.

chevron Land and Development Cccpany, who owns the land upon which l

i j

GA's punp station is located, is fully aware of and concurs with this j

plan.

We look forward to your approval of our request at your earliest j

convenience. W also acknowledge with appreciation the efforts of you j

and your staff, as wt.11 as those of Region V, ir. response to our 1

previous request (Reference 1).

If you shculd have ar.y questions or i

need any ackiitional informtion, please da not hesitate to contact ne j

at (619) 455-2823.

Very truly yours,

}
