DOCKET NUMBER 50-483 CALLAWAY PLANT FAILURE OF WESTINGHOUSE STEAM GENERATOR TUBE MECHANICAL PLUGS

Reference:

NRC Bulletin No. 89-01, dated May 15, 1989 NRC Bulletin No. 89-01, Action Item 1 requested Licensees to verify the number of Westinghouse mechanical plugs

' installed in the hot and cold legs of steam generator tubes supplied from heat numbers 3279, 3513, 3962, and 4523.

This review of our records has been performed and the results indicate that Callaway Plant does not have any steam generator mechanical plugs installed from the affected heat numbers.

Action Item 2e requested Licensees to examine Westinghouse mechanical plugs which may be removed from steam generators in the future, for primary water stress corrosion cracking. This examination is to be done on a sample basis for each heat.

At Callaway Plant this requirement will be procedurally incorporated and these examinations will be performed and the results provided to Westinghouse.

If there are any questions concerning this matter, please contact me.

Very truly yours, 1
