BASIC QUALITY ASSUR!NCE PROGRAM AND EVENT REPORTING FOR THE MEDICAL USE OF BYPRODUCT MATERIAL This is in response to your memorandum of March 29, 1989, which requests that Region II review and concur on the subject Commission Paper.
Region II concurs on the Commission Paper and its enclosures. However, we believe that the proposed change to paragraph 5.10.2(2) of 10 CFR 35 should address the accreditation of TLD mailout services. 10 CFR 35.630 requires ionization chambers to be calibrated every two years by one of the accredited dosimetry calibration laboratories or by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (formerly NBS). The adoption of a similar requirement to have the service providing the TLD used to confirm teletherapy dose rates accredited by an organization such as the American Association of Physicists in Medicine ,
should assure tha* these services maintain high standards. '
