1 DOCKET # 50-317 CALVERT CLIFFS - UNIT 1 June 9,1989 f
l SUM M Y OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE May 1989 i
Unit 1 began the month at 100% power (864 MWe Net).
On May 3, power was reduced to 90% to repair.#11 Circulating Water Pump (CW) oil j
pump. Repair was completed and power was increased to 100% by 0625 on May 4 j
i on May 5 a concern was..ised regarding our Unit 2 Pressurizer Heater leakage f
that might affect the Unit 1 Pressurizer. At 1555 power was reduced to begin a maintenance outage. At 2056 the breaker was opened, and at 2115 on May 6 the-reactor was shutdown.
The outage will be used to inspect the Unit 1 Pressurizer-Heaters for traces of water leaks.
The unit ended the month in a maintenance shutdown pending outcome of the-Pressurizer Heater investigation.

- 3.
Scheduled date for restart following refueling: December 12, 1990
- 4.
Will refueling or resumption of operation thereafter require a Technical Specification change or other license amendment?
Resumption of operation after refueling will require changes to Technical Specifications. The changes will be such as to allow operation of the plant with a higher onriched (4.3%) reload batch and reshuffled core for Unit l's next 24 month cycle.
5.
Scheduled date(s) for submitting proposed licensing action and supporting information.
August 14, 1990 * ( reload submittal )
6.
Important licensing considerations associated with the refueling.
Reload fuel will be similar to reload fuel inserted into the previous cycle l
cycle except for the higher enrichment ( 4.3% ).
)
7.
The number of fuel assemblies (a) in the core and (b) in the spent fuel storage pool.
1 (a) 217 (b) 1326 Spent fuel pools are common to Units 1 and 2.
8.
(a) The present licensed spent fuel pool storage capacity, and (b) the size of any increase in licensed storage capacity that has been requested or is planned, in number of fuel assemblies.
(a) 1830 (b) 2880 9.
The projected date of the last refueling that can be discharged to the Spent Fuel Pool assuming the present licensed capacity-and maintaining space for one full core off-load.
