TROJAN NUCLEAR PLANT Trojan operating Report i Egrch 1989 OPERATIONS-j The plant entered the month operating quietly at 100% power in Mode l 1.

.I On March 9, a containment entry was made to check for leakage.

Although no leakage was apparent, the packing on the motor operated valve for the pressurizer vapor space was tightened. Preliminary

. indications are that containment noble gas activity may have leveled off or declined slightly as a result.

The periodic Radiological Emergency Response Drill was conducted successfully on March 14.

The upcoming planned refueling outage, scheduled to start April 6, has..been extended from 60 to 65 days. The increase is due to additional scope of work necessary to replace 82 potentially defective mechanical tube plugs in steam generators A, C and D and perform eddy current examinations of steam generator tubes in all four-steam generators.

The . periodic condenser leak . indication, which had disappeared following resealing of condenser water box bolts in late February, reappeared in late March. Steam generator chemistry levels entered-the . seven day action statement on several occasions. Interim efforts succeeded in reducing but not eliminating the leak. The situation is being closely monitored, and the leak will be fully investigated and repairs accomplished during the refueling outage.

The plant ended the month operating quietly at 100% power in Mode 1.

MAINTENANCE '

Significant maintenance completed during this period includes:

Repaired inboard seal leaks on "B" Centrifugal Charging Pump Repaired "B" Residual Heat Removal recirculation valve motor operator APPROVED P1Tnf
