ENCLOSURE 1 UNRESOLVED ITEM (URI) 88-12-01 TITLE:

THERMAL MONITORING OF SUPPORTS ITEM DESCRIPTION:

"TVA's use of strain gage measurements to qualify supports 2-H63-2, 2-H63-3, 2-H63-4 and 2H63-5 to the long-term pipe support design criteria SQN-DC-V-24.2 is not acceptable unless TVA performs an evaluation of the entire piping analysis problem to obtain the correct distribution of loads for the qualification of all supports in the analysis.

TVA should provide a response which specifies the method used to qualify these four supports to long term criteria."

RESPONSE

TVA has initiated reanalysis of the affected piping problems for both units and will modify the supports as necessary to meet long-term qualification Design Criteria SQN-DC-V-24.2.

The reanalysis and modification work will be complete before the end of the Cycle 4 outage for each unit.

The above actions are tracked presently under Corporate Commitment Tracking System (CCTS) Item NCO-88-0048-001 for Unit 1 and NC0-88-0048-004 for Unit 2 with completion dates of Units 1 and 2 Cycle 4 outages, respectively.

The commitment was made in TVA's March 2, 1988, letter to NRC to qualify the support affected by this URI in accordance with long-term support Design Criteria SQN-DC-V-24.2 or to modify the support.

The completion of these actions will complete work required for the CCTS item and this URI.
