RESOLUTION The. School Board Directors of the Lower -. Dauphin School District
.are deeply concerned with not only the. educational program it provides for the District's pupils, but also for their health, safety and welfare.
'If the water that is to -be evaporated from the' crippled reactor at
- Three Mile Island is water that was used as a " moderator". it is quite possible that ' due to neutron capture, the hydrogen atoms in the water molecules could cause the water to be radioactive (Heavy Water).
If that ' Heavy Water is radioactive in the liquid state, it is equally
- as radioactive in the gaseous state.
Our children attend schools in close proximity 'to Three Mile Island
~
and are definitely in the downwind path of the prevailing winds.
If. this evaporated water returns to-earth in the form. of precipitation' or if.it is breathed in its gaseous state, it. could adverse _1y affect our children's health and' welfare.
In light of the above, we request that you consider another, safer procedure of disposing of the questionable water.
