Under the terms of the Energy Reorganization Act;of 1974, the NRC's authority is essentially limited to the health, safety and environmental aspects of nuclear power. plant operation.

Promotional responsibilities for nuclear power reside with the Department of Energy. Accordingly, I do not believe that an NRC representative could make any contribution concerning our l

official functions that would be relevant to the issue to be addressed in the May 18 hearing.
