DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 CRACKED TURNING VANES IN HVAC SYSTEMS SDAR: CP-89-014 (INTERIM REPORT)
Gentlemen:
On May,5,1989, TU Electric verbally notified the NRC of a deficiency involving cracked turning vanes in HVAC systems. This is an interim report submitted on a potentially reportable condition under the provisions of
Specifically, during routine HVAC construction activities, the following types of deficiencies were identified on HVAC duct segment turning vanes installed by Bahnson and documented on Nonconformance reports (NCRs):

Cracked welds (2)
Cracked and separated' vanes (3)
Vanes welded directly to the duct skin (4)
Broken welds A corrective action request (CAR 89-005) was issued and a walkdown initiated to determine the extent of these conditions. An engineering evaluation of deficiencies identified during the walkdown will determine the total scope of the issue, the potential impact on safety and the deportability of this matter under 10CFR50.55(e) and 10CFR21. TV Electric will submit the final repert on this issue prior to fuel load for Unit I and Unit 2 respectively.
