I. For the month of August 1987, Monthly Report for Byron Unit 1 A. Summary of Operating Experience for Unit 1 The unit began this reporting period in Mode 3. At 0520 on August 2, the reactor was taken critical. At 0825 the same day, the unit was synchronized to the grid. The unit operated at power levels of up to
'98% until August 9 when power was ramped down to 50% to repair a circulating waterbox. By August 11, at 0800, power was at 80%. At ,
1015 on August 11, a reactor trip occurred due to a trip of the 1B I Feedwater Pump. The reactor was taken critical at 1944 the same day. At 0105 on August 12, a reactor trip occurred due to a failed turbine stop valve servo controller. On August 13, at 1650, the reactor was taken critical and at 1851 synchronized to the grid.
From August 14 through August 16 power was kept at 56% for chemistry i concerns. The unit operated at power levels of up to 100% until August 26 when a. load reduction to 30% was initiated for chemistry ;
concerns and on OA SX make-up pump problem. By August 31, power was at 90% where it remained for the rest of the reporting period.
