EVALUATION OF GPU NUCLEAR, INC. RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER (GL) 97-05 FOR THREE MILE ISLAND, UNIT NO.1 (TMl-1)(TAC NO. MA0503)
Dear Mr. Langenbach:
On December 17,1997, the staff issued GL 97-05, " Steam Generator Tube Inspection Techniques," to all holders of operating licenses for pressurized water reactors (PWRs) except those which have permanently ceased operations and have certified that fuel has been permanently removed from the reactor vessel. You responded to that GL for TMI-1 by letter dated March 16,1998, (corrected copy dated March 26,1998). Yourletter contained a description and a technical basis for the inspection techniques used to size the depth of steam generator tube degradation at TMI-1.
The staff has completed its review of your response. The staff did not identify any concerns with the steam generator tube inspection techniques employed at TMI-1 that would indicate noncompliance with the current licensing basis. This completes the staff's review of this issue under TAC No. MA0503.
