A telecon between Commonwealth Edison Company personnel and J.A.

Norris, along with others of your staff, was held on June 5, 1987. That telecon resulted in a request for information regarding Zion Station's l program for vendor interface. The response to this request is provided below.

The information requested by the NRC Staff included a description of the method Zion Station utilizes to ensure the latest vendor technical information is available for the following major safety related equipment; Diesel Generators Safety Related Switchgear NSSS Vendor Equipment In addition, the NRC Staff also requested a commitment from the Zion Station to informally contact the vendors of the following safety related equipment on an annual basis:

125 V DC Batteries 125 V DC Battery Chargers ESP /ECCS Pumps MOV Operators A review of Paragraph 4.1.1.1 Nuclear Utility Task Action Committee (NUTAC) position on Generic Letter 83-28 Section 2.2.2 (INPO 84-010) indicates that vendor contact should be maintained with the NSSS vendor by a bulletin system and that other vendors should be contacted when the utility determines that such contact is necessary or would be beneficial.

Zion is active in the Westinghouse Technical Bulletin program and acknowledges receipt of each bulletin in writing. An index of bulletins is received annually from Westinghouse which is compared to those on site, y
