There were no positive test results requiring action during this reporting period.
Four hundred sixty-four (464) on-site tested negative quality control specimens were submitted to the SAMHSA laboratory during this period. 463 specimens were confirmed negative by the laboratory. One specimen confirmed positive at the laboratory following GC/MS testing. This specimen tested on-site at 98% of the positive threshold and was a valid negative. The on-site immunoassay test instrument was calibrated according to manufacturer's recommendations. A review of the forty-three other specimens tested during the run yielded no abnormalities. The Laboratory Forensic Testing Director was prdvided on-site screening information. She noted that when this specimen was tested on-site, it was properly reported i
as a negative test, although it was just under the positive threshold. The Laboratory Director concluded the overall accuracy of the on-site specimen screening program is acceptable j
under instrument accuracy standards. The false negative test result may be attributed to variability of reagents and/or differences in on-site and laboratory test equipment. Statistically, specimens that are right at the threshold level may screen both above and below the cutoff, if j
testing is repeated.
Blind performance testing was conducted at a rate of ten percent. Fourteen (14) specimens were submitted to the laboratory. All results were reported correctly.
Three (3) Fitness For Duty program violation appeals were presented to the Review Board for this period. The Comed Executive Review Board upheld all violation decisions.
Ninety-six (96) positive test results for specific substances were confirmed positive by the Medical Review Officer. Additionally, three (3) positive specimens were reanalyzed and re-confirmed positive.
