Dear Mr. Edwards:

The Commission has issued the enclosed Amendment No. 222 to Facility Operating License No.

DPR-44 for the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station (PBABPS), Unit No. 2. This amendment consists of changes to the Technical Specifications (TSs) in response to the PECO Energy Company's (licensee's) application dated January 17,1995 as supplemented by letters dated March 30,1995; July 2,1996; February 28 and September 22,1997; and January 23, July 9, and July 29,1998. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff previously issued l Amendment No. 224 to PBAPS, Unit No. 3, on September 30,1997, approving similar technical specification changes supporting implementation ofinstallation of WRNMS. At the licensee's l request, the approval of the technical specification changes for installation of WRNMS at PBAPS, Unit No. 2, was deferred to refueling outage 2R12 scheduled for early October 1998.

l The licensee's letter of July 29,1998, enclosed the updated TS pages supporting the installation of WRNMS at Unit No. 2.

This amendment revises the PBAPS, Unit No. 2 TSs to support modification POO271, which would replace the Source Range Monitors (SRMs) and intermediate Range Monitors (IRMs) with WRNMS, during the forthcoming outage 2R12, scheduled for early October 1998.

The licensee is requested to inform the NRC staff when the TS changes approved by this amendment are implemented, if there are any changes in the modification as installed from that '

l proposed in the licensee's application, or if there are any changes in implementation schedules.
