Dear Judge Cotter:
This letter is to express my support for Pacific Gas and Electric Company's reracking proposal or the spent fuel pools at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power j
Plant in Avila Beach, California.
Until the U.S. Department of Energy provides a permanent repository for i
spent fuels, PGandE has no choice but to store the fuel on site.
The proposed reracking is routine and consistent with similar activities by numerous other utilities and Diablo Canyon has an exceptional safety Li performance record.
- Reracking will allow for safe, cost effective on-site storage of spent fuel j
as the racks are designed for proper cooling and to withstand the required level of seismic activity.
There does not appear to be a viable alternative to the present proposal.
I sincerely hope your decision will not be influenced by the emotional, non-factual public input that I witnessed on the afternoon of June 15,1987 in Avila Beach.
