U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Docketing and Service Division Washington, D.C.
20555 Docket Nos. 50-275-OLA and 50-323-OLA Because of professional commitments we are not able to appear June 15 to make a pu'tilic statement concerning nuclear waste dumps at Diablo Canyon.
We are therefore sending our concerns to you for inclusion in the public hearings. Our concerns are:
1.
We won't accept PG6E's plan to store five times as much radioactive waste as the spent fuel pools were designed to hold.
2.
Storage of nuclear wastes next to an active earthquake fault is insane.
3.
We're appalled that waste will be stored in racks that can crash into each other, triggering a' serious nuclear accident. PG6E acknowledges this risk. They are willing to accept it.
We'are not.
4.
It is essential that the federal government establish permanent istorage facilities for these wastes. They must not routinely be permitted to be stored at the plant sites.
If this is the best PGSE can do with its wastes... crammed dangerously close together, next to an active earthquake fault, in makeshift facilities...they-have no business producing nuclear wastes!
