Re:
Docket'Nos. 50-275-OLA and 50-323-OLA AGAINST permanent waste storage at Diablo Canyon Plant When the Diablo Canyon Power Plant first opened, PG&E and the NRC claimed that the nuclear waste storage facilities were going to be temporary.
As time has gone by, and supposedly i
people forget, they seem to have changed the~ rules.
When the plant first opened, PG&E promised that the nuclear waste would be taken away from Diablo Canyon, once the spent fuel pools reached capacity.
This was because larger quantities of nuclear waste were considered dangerous by PG&E, the NRC and the public.
How come now, this waste is not considered dangerous by PG&E, even though our knowledge of nuclear waste disposal has shown that this is a more lethal problem than once thought.
PG&E's plan to store five times as much radioactive waste as the spent fuel pools were designed to hold, especially on an active earthquake fault entails deadly risks that we are not willing to take.
In addition, if the NRC continues to routinely permit wastes to be stored at plant sites, we
'i feel the federal government will never be forced to establish a permanent storage facility.
We are against permanent nuclear waste storage at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant.
It is an insane, dangerous plan.
The risks are too great.
