20555 Gentlemen:

We received on December 24 the responses of the Staff and LILCO to the Governments' motion for an extension of time to respond to LILCO's seven " realism" summary disposition motions.

The Staff's Response suggested a novel " rolling" schedule for responding to the motions individually, which we had not antici-pated as a potential response when we prepared the motion.

While we do not wish to burden the Board with additional or unnecessary filings on this matter, we do believe that a schedule such as that proposed by the Staff would be unworkable and undesirable for several reasons.

Accordingly, should the Board be inclined to consider adopting such a proposal, as opposed to a schedule for a single, fully coordinated response, we request an opportunity to provide our views on it prior to the Board's final ruling on the Governments' extension motion.

We could and would provide our views expeditiously -- certainly within a day -- upon notification from the Board of its desire to receive them.

Sincerely, 44 s4wt.t j

Lawrence Coe Lanpher cc:
