Request for Additional Information on Inservice Testing; July 8, 1987 b.

Notice of site visit to discuss IST program; August 12, 1987 The purpose of this letter is to advise the NRC of our proposed implementation of the Beaver

Valley, Unit 1, Inservice Test (IST)

Program for pumps and valves.

As a

result of the NRC's review efforts to evaluate our second interval program for Inservice Testing of Pumps and Valves, we received reference a) above and scheduled a site meeting per reference b) to discuss the same on October 6 and 7, 1987.

Our first 120 month interval is scheduled to end on September 20, 1987 which would mark the beginning of our second interval program.

Since the review of the second interval program is well underway and the NRC has indicated their SER would be forthcoming within a couple of months of this meeting, we are hereby advising the NRC that we will continued to follow the first interval program during the period of review.

We do, however, intend to implement our second interval IST program thirty days following restart from our sixth refueling outage, tentatively scheduled to end in mid February.

This implementation date has been selected to permit utilizing a later version of the ASME Code as defined by 10 CFR 50.55a(g) in the event the final SER on the second interval IST program is delayed.

In the event the NRC issues their final SER before our proposed implementation date

above, we would expect to implement the program either 30 days after restart or sixty days following receipt of the final SER, but in no case earlier than 30 days after restart from our refueling outage.

This delay in implementation is needed to permit reviewing the final SER and making the appropriate procedure changes.

Since we will be dedicating our resources to successful completion of the Unit No.

1 refueling outage, we would have to redirect these resources at the end of the outage to make the necessary procedure changes to implement the second interval program, f
