This amendment applicattor.' requests !QC authorization to construct and use r " Temporary Storage' Facili'ty" which will be. located within our existing restricted area.
It will be an in ground array of eight vertical, concrete cylinders arranged 'ig tu rows of four,.
with 24-inches of concrete shielding at the top of each cylinder..
The top of the concrete shielding will be approximately at ground level.
Each cylinder will be 6-feet in diameter and 13-feet tall.
The cylinders will rest on a common concrete pad.
Each will; be equipped with a drain pipe which leads to a common sampling pit:.
The drain piping will be stainless steel and will be encasea 'iA th6 base slab.
The concrete base slab will be surroundeo by a foundation drain system which is piped to a second 7,ampling pit The two sampling pits will be sampled on a regular schedule and.
analyzed for the presence of radioactive material.
The waste that will be stored in this facility is containerized in long-life containers.
The majority of the containers are stainless steel,

30-gallon drums.
Some drums will,be 30-gallon and 55-gallon stie.
carbon steel, but will be overpacked in stainless steel' or gn?vanized drums.
At the present time, containers otithis Hot Cell vaste are stored in the Annex to Building J.
That annex was constructed for short-term storage of the hot cell waste during a period when the ultimate dis-position of the waste had not yet been Icetermined.
This interim a
facility (the annex to Building J). now holds approximate 1y' 100 drumis of this waste and is full.
In addition, the normal operations in support of existing and anticipated contracts will generate approxi-c a
mately 100 more drums over the next il years.

The decommissioning program for Building C has also been completed, the confirmatory l
survey by the NRC has been completed, and the final report of that survey is being prepared.
