Operating License No. DPR-73 Docket No. 50-320 10 CFR 55.11 Exemption Request On August 5,1987, during a telephone conversation with Mr. W. Thompson, TMI Operator Training Manager, Mr. B. Norris, NRC Region I Reactor Engineer Examiner, indicated that NRC Region I was planning to administer a j
NUREG-1021-ES-601 Requalification Audit Examination, per the requirement of 10 CFR 55.57, " Renewal of Licenses," at TMI-2 in the first quarter of 1988.
As discussed with Mr. Norris, it is the opinion of GPU Nuclear that conduct of the examination as proposed may not be the most effective utilization of NRC or GPU Nuclear resources based on the following information:
o Currently, the TMI-2 Reactor Vessel is being defueled with a projected completion date of third quarter of 1988.
o TMI-2 Technical Specification Change Request (TSCR) 53, submitted to the NRC via GPU Nuclear letter 4410-87-L-0042 dated April 23, 1987, requests elimination of TMI-2 Technical Specific 9 tion requirements for licensed operators upon completion of the TMI-2 defueling program. Thus, if TSCR 53 is approved, GPU Nuclear anticipates that.
the requirements for licensed operators at TMI-2 will be deleted within the same year as the proposed examination date.
