APPLICANTS' RESPONSE TO JOINT MOTION OF ATTORNEY CSNERAL JAMES M. SHANNON, NEW ENGLAND COALITION, SEACOAST ANTI-FC'sLUTION LEAGUE, AND TOWN OF HAMPTON FOR CLARIFICATION AND FOR LEAVE TO FILE REBUTTAL TESTIMONY IF NECESSARY Under Date of August 20, 1987, The Massachusetts Attorney General, The New England Coalition on Nuclear Pollution, The Seacoast Anti-Pollution League, and the Town of Hampton filed a Joint Motion for Leave to File Rebuttal Testimony in this proceeding.

It is the position of the Applicants that, at this time, the motion is premature.

Until the direct testimony is filed, no party is able to determine whether it even desires to file rebuttal testimony.

Of more importance, the Board uill be

greatly assisted by having in hand the direct testimony in reaching its decision as to whether to allow rebuttal testimony with respect to any given piece of direct.

Thus, it is the applicants' position that the motion, as of this time, should be 8709090083 070827 23
