1 of 1 MONTHLY OPERATING ACTIVITIES - MAY 1987 HIGHLIGHTS:

The reporting period began with the unit in Mode 1 at 90% power, the administrative limit imposed to minimize steam generator tube f

degradation.

On 5-6-87, power was increased to 100% for the l

Volumetric Flow test, after which power was returned to 90% on 5-8-87.

Power was further reduced on 5-10-87, to 79.5% due to high sulfate and conductivity levels.

Power remained at 79.5% until 5-26-87, when it was increased to 90% and held through the end of the reporting period.

Gross Electrical Generation for the month of May was 651,580 MWH.

SUMMARY

5-6-87 1115 Hours:

Began increasing power to 100% at 2% an hour.

2155 Hours:

Power stable at 100%.

5-8-87 1145 Hours:

Began decreasing power to 90%.

1418 Hours:

Power stable at 90%.

5-9-87 0537 Hours:

In action level 1 due to steam generator chemistry levels.

5-10-87 0826 Hours:

Began Power decrease to <80% at 3% an hour due to action level 1.

1215 Hours:

Power stable at 79.5%.

5-26-87 1140 Hours:

Began power increase to 90%.

1735 Hours:

Power stable at 90%.

St. Amand TELEPHONE (616) 465-5901 PAGE 1 of 1 MAJOR SAFETY-RELATED MAINTENANCE MAY, 1987 M-1 The essential service water lines which provide backup cooling to the control room air conditioners were found plugged with sand.

Valves were removed and the lines flushed.

The valves were reinstalled and the systems returned to service.

M-2 The west essential service water pump would not attain the minimum technical specification discharge pressure.

The pump was replaced and successfully operab'ility tested prior to returning to service.
