JOSEPII M. FARLEY NUCIEAR PIANT UNIT 1 1

NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

OF OPERATIONS April, 1987 i

k There was one unit shutdown during the month of April. On 4-5-87, the unit was shut down to repair various leaking components. During this shutdown, at 2338 on 4-5-87, with the unit in Mode 3 (flot Standby) and the control Innks inserted, a reactor trip signal was generated when source range nuclear instrument N-31 failed high. The shutdown banks, which had i

remained fully withdrawn, inserted on the reactor trip signal. The detector for N-31 was replaced and, following testing, N-31 was returned to service. The unit returned to power operation on 4-15-87 following completion of the planned outage.

l The following nnjor safety-related maintenance was performed in the month of April:

1.

leaks were repaired on the C loop RTD bypass manifold, the A steam generator manway, and the A residual heat removal pump. Leaks were also repaired on both the normal and alternate charging isolation valves.

2.

The detector for source range nuclear instrument N-31 was replaced.

3.

Radiation mani tor R-20 was repaired.

j l

4.

Miscellaneous corrective and preventive maintenance was performed I

on the diesel generators.
