Subject: NRC:RI Inspection 50-317/87-17, 50-318/87-19
This transmits the July 1-31, 1987 resident inspection findings by Messrs. T. Foley
and D. Trimble at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Lusby, Maryland.
Those
findings were based on observation of activities, interviews, and document reviews,
which have been discussed with Mr. Lemons of your staf f.
This report includes observations of the loss of offsite power trip of both
l
units. Overall, your performance during the event was good as noted in
'
separate correspondence; however, we did note that the performance of a
steam-driven auxiliary feedwater pump was less than optimal in that it did
not start upon initial demand.
It is noted that this has been a recurrent
problem at Calvert Cliffs. We understand that corrective action is being
taken.
It is requested that details of your corrective action be provided
within 90 days of the date of this letter.
