item Comments Reg'd Action By Cygna stated that, during the week, they had determined all calculations, pre:edures, etc. which needed to be audited to resolve RiL issues and also detcrmined the location and status of each of those items. Because of the activity still remaining on the cable tray MRM issue and the priority for the resolution of that issue, conduit review activities were limited.
Cygna reviewed procedures for consideration of systems with non-rigid CA-typa supports.
Cygna understands that if a system contains a non-rigid CA-type support, it is considered a flexible system. All spans are considered to be LS-spans, and the supports are designed accordingly.
Cygna has begun the review of the thermal studies and understands that there are four studies:
two junction box studies for accident and normal temperatures, and two conduit studies for accident and normal temperatures.
Some of the studies are still in progress. Cygna has esolved some questions during the week, but the review is still on-going, pending Ebasco's completion of work.
Cygna understands that grouted penetrations are not considered to be supports, which is conservative for both 8709040182 870723 PDR ADOCK 05000445 PDR 1

ltem Comments Action By the conduit span and conduit support evaluations. Cygna reviewed calculations for embedded conduits, which are considered to be thre -way supports. As a result of this review, Cygna has two ruestions.
First, Cygna asked why the following equation was used to determine the concrete capacity:
9.5 f'c D
instead of the more conservative:
6.7 f'c D
Cygna stated that the latter equation was used for top bars in case of bubbles forming under the bars, which decreases the bonding.
Ebasco explained that both equations were used; they used different allowables for conduits embedded in walls and floors.
Cygna's second concern was that Ebasco had not shown that the ACI allowables were applicable for embedded conduits with larger diameters than #18 bars, since allowables decrease with size.
Ebasco stated that the plot of allowables vs. bar size was more or less linear, and extrapolation of that plot was possible for larger embedments. Ebasco agreed to provide that documentation to Cygna for review.
Cygna also reviewed the systems concept and determined that internal Cygna discussions are required. Ebasco is also revising the calculation to demonstrate that the concept is acceptable for hinged boundary conditions, which forces more load into the supports. The revised calculation will be reviewed during the next audit.
Cygna is also in the process of reviewing Calculation Book 44, the procedure to develop the design "g" values, and the calculation which developed the load factors to
