Substitution of Next Heavier Structural Member (RIL Issue 17)

Ebasco stated that Calculation SPAN-1189 and SUPT-0247 address the substitution for. tube steel only.

For open section structural members, the actual size will be verified during walkdowns or the Inaccessible Attributes Procedure will be followed.

In Calculation SUPT-0247, all supports are checked for the effect of next heavier member substitution (based on f(new)/f(minimum) support frequency and stress interaction ratios). Those supports that fail the minimum support frequency or stress interaction ratio requirements, are further investigated in Calculation SPAN-1:?9, using two degree coupled system and relaxed "g" values for supports.

Cygna is to :omplete the review of the above mentioned calculation during the next audit.

equations to bar sizes greater than #18 bar, Ebasco provided a plot of development lerath (

d) vs. bar diameter (D), comparing the 1963 and 1971 codes. On this basis it can be concluded that the 1963 code is more conservative.

Cygna stated that the issue of applicability of allowable bond stress equations is still not addressed.
