1 To Whom It May concern:
1 Please be advised that the Town Board, at a.necting, held on July 28, 1987 adopted the following resolution:
WHEREAS, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has proposod a change to its own rules which would permit the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station to be licensed and opened without an emergency evacuation plan approved by local government, and WHEREAS, such a rule change would adversely impact the public health, safety, and welfare of the people of Long Island, and i
WHEREAS, such a rule change would be an unconstitutionsi

usurpation of the police powers guaranteed to state and local government, and WHEREAS, the Town of Southampton strongly opposed the proposed NRC rule change, and WHEREAS, legislation has been introduced in the U.S.
Congress (H.R.2279) which would preclude the NRC from changing its rules to dispense with a locally approved evacuation plan, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT, l
RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Towa of Southampton f
hereby supports all legislative initiatives to preclude the NRC I
rule change from taking effect.
