(1) Tubes Plugged Steam Generator #21 (2) Tubes Plugged Steam Generator #22 (3) Sketch of Steam Generator Support Locations Gentlemen:
As required by Technical Specification 4.4.5.5, this letter reports the number of tubes plugged in the Calvert Cliffs Unit 2 Steam Generators during the recent March / April 1987 Inservice Inspection.
Forty-three tubes were found to have service induced degradation which exceeded the Technical Specification plugging limit of 40% loss of nominal wall thickness, 29 in Steam Generator #21 and 14 in Steam Generator #22.
The inspection results on the initial Technical Specification sample selection required 100% of each Steam Generator's tubing to be inspected.
Indications of 20% through wall degradation or greater were found on a total of 176 tubes from the 17,008 tubes examined. As stated above, 43 of these indications exceeded the plugging limit of 40% loss of nominal wall. Additionally, 18 tubes, showing eddy current g\\

of less than 40% nominal'. wall l'oss, - were plugged.
For
~
I-
-indications:
l precautionary reasons, five of the -18 tubes were-plugged due to degradation at the upper. supports, which are' suspected to be wear.
t.
Twelve tubes were plugged due.to degradation above the tube sheet,.and-one,was plugged due to degradation at the first. support.. Metallurgical-examination of U-1 tubing has' shown that the degradation-above the tube i
. sheet'is caused by Intergranular Attack (IGA).
The indication at the first. support is suspected to be ICA, also.
j These 61 tubes were. removed from service by plugging the - hot and~ cold leg tube ends with mechanical plugs.
Attachments ' (1) - and -(2) list the tubes' plugged during the 1987. Unit 2
