U LNRC-1576 RESPONSE TO ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REQUEST REGARDING CYCLE 3 RELOAD APPLICATION Question Provide an estimate of the burnup (in megawatt-days per metric ton of uranium) for the highest power assembly in the Cycle 3 reload core.
Provide the basis for the estimate.
Response
The ful1~ power end-of-life cycle burnup for Cycle 3 is 18,200 MWD /MTU.
A two dimensional quarter core pin-by-pin l
diffusion theory model (Westinghouse TURTLE code) was developed for the Cycle 3 loading pattern.
.This model was depleted to 19,000 MWD /MTU to include a possible coastdown at the end of Cycle 3.
Based on the 19,000 MWD /MTU model, the burnup of the highest power assembly in Cycle 3 is 23,87 0 MWD /MTU.
