4 Introduction A meeting was held at the request of Nuclear Energy Services (NES) at Silver 1
Spring, Maryland, on August 17, 1987, concerning alternate construction details and as-built conditions of the Model No. NES-5 cask.
Discussion Construction of the first NES-5 cask is completed.
From the experience gained' during the fabrication of the first cask NES would like to provide for alternate construction details and some options on the materials of constructions. NES presented a set of marked up packaging drawings and discussed each of the proposed changes. The majority of the changes would not require revision of the safety analysis report other than the necessary. drawing revisions.
Dimensional changes were made to the cover lifting lugs to facilitate construction.
The lug analysis will be revised to reflect the new dimensions. NES'also discussed the as cast properties of the rigid polyurethane foam used in the impact limiters. Any significant change in properties would be addressed in the-safety analysis report.
NES expects to submit, within the next 2 to 3 weeks, a request to amend the certificate of compliance to incorporate the revised packagings-drawings.
