REQUEST FOR REGIONAL ASSISTANCE - D. C. COOK 2 STEAM-GENERATOR REPLACEMENT The Indiana and Michigan Electric Company has established a program to replace the steam generators in the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant, Unit No. 2.
The enclosed report was transmitted to us by IMEC by letter dated November 7, 1986 and revised by letters dated March 30, 1987 and July 24, 1987.
The revisions have been made to the enclosed report.
On August 5, 1987, Dave Wigginton, the Cook' Project Manager, discussed the program with Frank Jablonski of your office.
It is requested that Region III provide the review of Section 5, " Quality Assurance," as well as'other I
section? which may have QA interfaces.
The Region III review results will be i
incorporated in the Safety Evaluation to be issued by NRR to support approval of the plan.
The licensee has announced their intent to begin the replacement in the Spring of 1988; therefore, our Safety Evaluation is scheduled to be complete in November 1987.
The schedule for questions to the licensee and a meeting to discuss the licensee's response to all review group's questions-is being established by the Project Manager.

It is our understanding that this request should be brought to the attention of Tom Vandel of your staff.
Marty Farber of Region III is responsible for the' Region III inspection activities for the replacement program and should be kept informed of the Region III activities.
