SUBJECT:
STAFF MEETING WITH GE ON ABWR TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS GE requested this exploratory meeting to discuss their plans for development and submittal of Technical Specifications for the ABWR standard plant design.
The list of attendees is enclosed.
GE discussed submission of draft ABWR Standard Technical Specifications (TS) in June 1988. These TS would be based on previously approved TS with updated screening crit.eria. GE proposed updating the submission after the BWR Owners Group submits its proposed revised BWR standard TS.
j The staff and GE discussed current developments in BWR standard TS. The i
staff elaborated on the policy statement on T5 improvements.
Since GE's current plans are to have TS included in the Final Design Approval and Design Certification, these should be state-of-the-art TS which satisfy all the goals of the policy statement. The staff is not inclined to devote significant resources to reviewing TS which do not satisfy these goals and-

which would likely change as a result of the final Owners Group product.
GE will reconsider their plans for developing and submitting TS and will continue to coordinate with the Owners Group and the staff in this regard.
