BRAIDWOOD INSPECTION REPORT 50-456/98009(DRP); 50-457/98009(DRP)
Dear Mr. Kingsley:
' On July 27,' 1998, the NRC completed an inspection at your Braidwood Units 1 and 2 reactor
facilities. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection. During the 7 weeks
. covered by this inspection period, your conduct of activities was generally characterized by
safety-conscious operations, sound engineering and maintenance practices, and careful
radiological work controls.
Two non-cited violations are discussed in this report. The first non-cited violation involved an
event wherein a system engineer identified that non-licensed operators and a work center
supervisor failed to identify that specific gravity on a safety-related battery did not meet the
acceptance criteria identified in the. Technical Specification. The second non-cited violation
- involved an identified event where two fire watch personnel documented the performance of
hourly fire watch inspections of the upper cable spreading room, but later your staff reviewed
security records and determined they did not actually perform the inspections,
in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and the
enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
Sincerely,
/s/ M. L. Dapas for
