You will recall that. en July. 25, 1968, the Atomic Energy Commission issued i public announcement jointly with the l
Department of the Interior announcing that alternate plans were being examined for a nuclear power and desalting plant for southern California in view of the fact that the Bolsa Island project as presently constituted had been determined met to be economie.
l Subsequently, by letter dated November 4,1968, Southern California Mison submitted an application to withdraw the joint application submitted by them and San Diego Gas and Bleetric Company for authorisaties to construct and operate the Edison-San Diego Unit of the Belaa Island Nuclear power and Desalting plant, to be com-structed on an island off the seast of Bolsa Chias State Beach La Orange County, California. By letter dated December 27, 1968, the Departneat of Water and Peuer of The City of Lee Angeles submitted a stallar appliestion for withdrawal of their application to constreet and operate the Department unit of the Bolsa -
Island project.
