NRC INSPECTION REPORT 70-7001/98014(DNMS)

Dear Mr. Miller:

. On August 7,1998, the NRC completed a routine inspection of plant operations, maintenance, and engineering at your Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant. The purpose of the inspection was to r determine whether activities authorized by the certificate were conducted safely and in accordance with NRC requirements. At the conclusion of the inspection, the inspector discussed the findings with members of your staff as identified in the enclosed report.

l Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report. Within these areas, the l inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures and representative records, l

~ interviews with personnel, and observations of activities in progress.

l During the inspection, one minor violation of NRC requirements was identified. The minor l violation involved the installation of a portable charger to maintain the voltage of a set of cascade-related batteries without first performing required safety reviews and approvals. Due to the minimal safety significance of the minor violation and your prompt actions to address the violation, no formal enforcement action is being taken.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
